Concept:

-Honor the imagery of traditional Slavic dress and Russian ballet

-Transform the traditional costumes into avant-garde costumes and head pieces inspired by modern fantasy couture and fantasy photography.

-Create a spectacle through the use of color, draping, beading, embroidery, and use loose fabrics to accentuate movement in the back up performers

-Change the story to make Koshei into a woman (Kosheievna Besmertnoya) who is the priestess of the goddess of the dead Morana, and have her minions be souls of the dead- possibly deceased maidens that the13 princesses might become once they lose themselves/their individuality

Concept:

Using a white base costume for each character with exchangeable articles and accessories, I will collaborate with a digital media designer to create textile projections on the characters clothing and the surrounding scenery to create the illusion of rapid digital costume changes and to accentuate the moments in motion. Thus, creating the comedy of the character interaction with the projections as we see them interact and transform on stage.
